Maasdam is a type of Dutch cheese similar to Emmental. It is produced from cow's milk and aged for a minimum of four weeks, ripening at a faster pace than other Dutch cheeses. Maasdam has characteristic holes formed during the ripening process, as well as a smooth, yellow rind. In some cases, it may be waxed like Gouda. This cheese was originally created as a lower-cost and quicker alternative to Swiss Emmentaler cheeses. While it possesses similar components, Maasdam has a distinct nutty and sweet flavor due to its higher moisture content, resulting in a softer texture. Perfect melting cheese.
